Heartstrings
An interactive installation
CONCEPT
Expanding on earlier experiments in color and tactile interaction, this work takes simple line and vibrant color to a scale large enough to immerse yourself in. As the motifs move through audience members pulling the cords the shapes are attached to, the viewer is allowed to tell their own story of curiosity. Building their own composition in reaction to their present feelings and responding to the colors and shapes presented to them.
The multi-media installation work which responds to an architectural environment and enriches it with moments of engagement and connection. Through the use of vibrant color and tactile elements, Heartstrings is a work which seeks to connect us to the moments we’re living in and the people we’re living them with. Realized through the stringing of yarn over individual nails, as well as hand-cut acrylic motifs fixed to plastic cording, beads strung on plastic piping and hand-twisted rope, Heartstrings provides a place for physical interaction with fiber art that allows fo real-time interactions and the creation of connection between the self and the surroundings. As each nail is individually placed, the concept could be applied to any number of public spaces. With the yarns being separated by strand, the pattern can be edited and reimagined at every installation.
